State prison offender Jose Sanchez dies in custody

South Dakota state prison offender Jose Sanchez has died. Sanchez, age 61, passed away at the Jameson Prison in Sioux Falls on July 22, 2026. At the time of his death, he was serving sentences for attempted first-degree murder and simple assault on law enforcement out of Minnehaha County.
