A beloved New Jersey deli reopens Thursday, just over a week after the business was shuttered after being targeted by copper thieves. On Thursday, Somerdale Cold Cuts, on the 500 block of North Warwick Road in Somerdale, New Jersey, will once again open for business after the establishment close d back on July 13, 2026 following theft of copper piping that, owner Johnny “Gabagool” Aubry, said ran refrigeration units. The loss of this piping, he estimated, caused the business to throw away about $20,000 worth of food after it spoiled. But, Aubry said, the issues have been addressed and how he’s excited to reopen. In a social media video, Aubry celebrated the impending opening on Thursday morning, as he filmed the “paparazzi” news media that gathered early to cover the reopening. And, he said, while the business was shuttered for several days, he connected with customers who supported him throughout the ordeal. “The whole time that I was in here dealing with the issues, the phone was ringing, then my cell phone was ringing,” Aubry said. “I feel very connected with my customers here in this area and they call me, even if I was home, just to make sure everything is alright, (asking) if there’s anything people can do. They were very, very helpful.” Also, he joked, for any customer who ate a hoagie at other businesses while his deli was shutdown, there would be no hard feelings when they return to eat at Somerdale Cold Cuts.
