Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner did not appear Wednesday for a planned news conference to speak out against recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court rulings, even as community leaders gathered for the event. On Wednesday morning, Krasner’s office sent out a release to promote a news confe rence titled “Be the Light, Bring the Light.” In that event, Krasner was expected to condemn some recent rulings “aimed at perpetuating oppression, harm and marginalization of Black people,” according to the release. The news conference was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Salt and Light Church on Chester Avenue. As of noon, Krasner had not appeared, and the event continued without him. Councilmember and pastor Nicolas O’Rourke hosted the gathering as community members held signs protesting mass incarceration. It is unclear why Krasner did not attend the event.
