Courtesy of Connoisseur Media Lincoln.LINCOLN–(KFOR July 22)–Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Cindy Burbank of Omaha will not appear on the November 3 general election ballot, after she filed the paperwork last Friday to have her named removed.
Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen released the
following statement on Tuesday on the matter, saying-quote- “Cindy Burbank has submitted the form by the statutory deadline to decline her nomination as the Democratic Party nominee for the U.S. Senate in the November election. We have consulted with the Attorney General’s office. Under Nebraska law, when a candidate has declined a nomination by the deadline, the Secretary of State has no discretion to refuse it. For that reason, Cindy Burbank’s name will not appear on the November ballot as the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. I have advised the Democratic Party of the requirements for substituting another candidate.”
Burbank has told state and national news outlets that she would likely bow out and endorse Independent Dan Osborn’s effort to oust incumbent Republican Pete Ricketts.
