The Vallejo Police Department is deploying more officers and increasing high-visibility patrols in response to a sudden surge in crime between July 18 and July 20, according to a statement from the city. To help address the immediate public safety concerns, Police Chief Jason Ta is also seeking regional assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. While the recent spike in violence has raised alarms, city officials emphasized that overall crime has actually dropped significantly this year. During the first six months of 2026, robberies fell by 49%, shootings decreased by 35% and murders dropped by 29% compared to the same period last year. However, police acknowledge that issues like domestic violence and assaults have increased and require urgent attention. Looking ahead, the department is rolling out several long-term safety strategies.
