Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story identified the victim as female based on preliminary information from police. Authorities later said detectives determined the victim identified as male. This story has been updated. A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing a man in East San Jose last week, police said Tuesday. Marco Jimenez, a San Jose resident, has since been booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder in the killing of the unidentified man, who police say he knew. Officers first responded at about 12:59 a.m. Wednesday to a home on the 2100 block of Lanai Avenue to investigate a report of an unresponsive man, police said. Responding officers found the man unconscious and not breathing. Medical personnel tried to save him, but he died at the scene. At the time, the man had minor visible injuries, “but no obvious signs of fatal trauma were observed,” police said in a statement. Jimenez was detained at the scene and determined to be a person of interest, according to police. On Thursday, the medical examiner’s officer told detectives that the man’s manner of death was ruled as homicide, according to police. Detectives subsequently took Jimenez into custody. The motive and circumstances surrounding the homicide – San Jose’s 15th of 2026 – remain under investigation, police said. Anyone with information is urged to contact San Jose police Detective Sgt. Taylor or Detective Van Brande by email at [email protected] and/or [email protected] or by phone at 408-277-5283. ...read more read less
