NJ man stabs girlfriend to death before taking his own life, officials say

Officials identified a New Jersey woman who they say was stabbed to death by her boyfriend who then took his own life.
On Thursday, July 16, around 11:40 a.m., detectives with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the 500 block of Bilper Avenue in Lindenwold, New Jersey, for a repo
rted stabbing. When they arrived, they found 53-year-old Marlene Carmichael of Lindenwold suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Carmichael was taken to Cooper University Hospital where she was pronounced dead that day around 2:22 p.m.

About an hour later, Camden County police officers responded to the 1100 block of MacArthur drive in Camden, New Jersey. When they arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle who was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man — 64-year-old Harry Gibbs — was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:56 p.m. that afternoon.

Police said they recovered a gun and a knife that they determined Gibbs used to stab Carmichael to death. Investigators said Gibbs and Carmichael were in a relationship.
Officials continue to investigate the incident but said there is no active threat to the public.
