The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) confirmed Monday that a person has the first case of measles in more than a decade in the state. An unvaccinated man from Kent County has tested positive for the highly contagious and potentially deadly virus, officials said, and they are working to tr ace and identify anyone exposed to the outbreak. Due to health privacy laws, more details on the man were not available. “DPH will notify people who were identified as exposed to confirm whether they have been vaccinated against measles, provide educational resources, and to recommend treatment when necessary,” officials said. Early symptoms of measles include cough, fever, red, watery eyes and then a rash, officials said. Measles can result in pneumonia, brain infection and death. Although there is a vaccine to protect against measles, outbreaks have been rising in the U.S. in recent years due to people opting to not get the shot.
