(Courtesy of LNK Airport)LINCOLN–(KFOR July 20)–While work on rebuilding the nearly 13,000 foot Runway 18/36 continues at the Lincoln Airport, you have a chance to preserve a piece of local aviation history. According t o a news release from the Lincoln Airport, a partnership with a local organization has created authentic sections of concrete removed from the runway have been transformed into commemorative keepsakes, each mounted on a handcrafted wood base with a custom plaque. “Runway 18/36 has connected generations of travelers, supported our military partners and played an important role in Lincoln’s growth,” said Chad Lay, Director of Planning and Development at the Lincoln Airport. “While we’re building for the future, it’s equally important to preserve and celebrate where we’ve been. These keepsakes allow people to own a small piece of that legacy while helping support future public art celebrating aviation at Lincoln Airport.” Each keepsake contains an authentic piece of concrete removed during the reconstruction of the historic Runway 18/36—concrete that has served pilots, passengers, military personnel and the Lincoln community for more than seven decades.
