Dallas Wings host Los Angeles Sparks in a schedule shakeup
Jul 17, 2026
WNBA MVP hopeful Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings are preparing for the first game in Arlington this month. It’s coming Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Sparks; the Wings were supposed to host the New York Liberty on Thursday night, but that game was postponed to Monday because the Libe
rty’s charter flight had mechanical issues.
The Wings (16-8) are off the best start to a season in a decade. The Sparks (10-13) are one of the three worst teams in the Western Conference by record.
This is the Wings’ first game in Arlington since June 28.They spent two weeks on the road, without a loss, before defeating the Chicago Sky at the American Airlines Center, in front of a crowd of 13,236, on Sunday night for their fifth straight win – their longest winning streak since 2023.
The Wings have two more games at the AAC this season: Aug. 7 against Golden State and Aug. 20, when Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever come to town.
The Wings currently have the fourth-best record in the league; the top eight teams make the playoffs. The Wings have 20 games remaining in their WNBA regular season. Only eight of the Wings’ remaining games are against teams that currently have a winning record: New York (13-11), Atlanta (13-10), Washington (11-10), Golden State (17-7), Minnesota (17-6), and Indiana (14-9). The Wings play Washington, Golden State, and Indiana twice before the season ends. Their last seven games of the season are against teams with a losing record.
Bueckers, an All-Star starter, is top five in the league in scoring (20.7 ppg). Kelsey Plum for the Sparks is second at 23.9 points per game. The only player scoring more points per game on a team with a better record than Bueckers is reigning four-time league MVP A’ja Wilson. Bueckers and Plum are two guards competing for spots on the 2028 Team USA Olympic basketball team in Los Angeles. Plum won a Gold Medal in Paris in 2024; Bueckers made her senior team debut earlier this year.
The women’s team is seeking its ninth straight Gold Medal – a streak that started at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. This is the first Summer Olympics hosted by the United States since ’96.
