Oahe Zap shock the ILB with series win over 1st place Sasquatch; Go for sweep in game four tonight
Jul 14, 2026
Coming into this three (turned four) game series against Spearfish, the Zap knew this would be a measuring stick homestand as they tried to decipher how they would stack up against the best record in the league and the reining league champions from a year ago. The Zap have been red hot since they pi
cked up three out of four on the road in Casper towards the end of June. They have won every series since then, and have thrust themselves out as the frontrunners to win the second half of the season which would again punch their ticket to the final series of the season. However, there was a lingering question, could they beat or even hang with the Spearfish Sasquatch?
Coming into this series, which was bumped up to a four-gamer to include a rainout from earlier this year, the Zap were 1-10 against Spearfish. To add to the storyline, those losses weren’t particularly close, either. Combined, the Sasquatch outscored the Zap by 87 total runs in those 10 losses, their one win coming in a 3-1 struggle. To say that Spearfish has had the Zap’s number this year would be an understatement. However, Jamy Haberger’s Zap have been playing a different brand of baseball since those series. They’ve been playing inspired, gritty and aggressive over the last few weeks and it has carried over into this crucial series.
The Zap won game one of the series on Monday night 2-0 in a marvelous display of pitching from River Walters and Cy Taylor. Had this series been played in early June, the Sasquatch might’ve bounced back and beaten the Zap to silence any talk of a shift in the two teams. The Zap had other plans.
In game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader, the Zap fell behind 3-0 in the fourth inning and it looked like it might be the same old outcome. Though in the bottom of the fourth, the Zap struck for four runs thanks to an RBI grounder from Quinn Ludvigsen followed by a sharply hit single by Mason Melton. After taking the lead, the Zap ignited for a nine-run fifth inning aided by a string of singles to secure the victory by mercy rule and win it 13-3.
Playing with the momentum, the Zap won game two 10-4 after another big fourth inning that saw six come across. That inning consisted of Blake Imhoff and Dom DeCarlo doubles followed by Ludvigsen and Melton RBIs.
For the first time this year, the Zap have climbed above .500 improving to 19-18 and completely altering the look of the ILB. It seems, at least for this week, there is a new sheriff in town.
The Zap will go for the coveted four-game sweep Wednesday night against the Sasquatch. Tune in live on River 92.7 at 6:00 PM CT (possibly 7:00 PM depending on the heat). Any changes to start times will be updated here, on our Facebook and mentioned in our daily sportscasts. The game will also be streamed live on DRGnews.com/River.
