INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard announced Tuesday he has enough signatures to be on the ballot for the Indiana secretary of state election in November. The former Republican turned Independent needed to secure 36,943 petition signatures to secure his place on th e ballot. Tuesday, Ballard announced he had submitted 41,299 signatures to the Secretary of State’s Office. “The Republican and Democrat in this race were each nominated at closed party conventions by about one thousand party insiders,” Ballard said in Tuesday’s announcement. “Today, I am delivering 41,299 verified signatures from Hoosiers who signed petitions because they are fed up, frustrated, and angry.” Ballard will face Democrat Beau Bayh and Republican Max Engling in November. Bayh is the son of former Indiana Governor Evan Bayh and the grandson of former US Sen. Birch Bayh. Engling is a is an adviser and regional director for US Sen. Jim Banks. He defeated incumbent Secretary of State Diego Morales at the State Republican Convention in June. In Tuesday’s announcement, Ballard said the secretary of state, who oversees the state’s elections, “must protect every voter, every candidate, and every ballot, not merely mark time until the next, higher political position comes along.” Voter registration for the 2026 general elections is open until Oct. 5.
