Here’s a roundup of happenings for Thursday, July 16, to Wednesday, July 22.  *Starred events are free to attend, a lthough they may include ticketed components or a suggested donation. Outer Realms Market at Woodmansee *Saturday, July 18 – Sunday, July 19: For two days, Woodmansee Park will fill with local artists, performers and community workshops for an art fair hosted by The Outer Realms. A class to learn sword fighting basics will be held day-round Saturday and Sunday. There will be a stamp carving workshop Sunday with an $18 registration fee. The fair runs from 3-9 p.m. in the park both days. Entry is free, but a $5 donation is suggested. The park is at 4629 Sunnyside Rd. S.E. Punk and ska music festival Saturday, July 18: Five punk and ska bands will bring 90s nostalgia to a music festival at a local organic vegetable farm. It will be Minto Island Growers’ sixth annual MIG Fest. Rad Max, a Portland punk band, will open the festival at 2 p.m., followed by ska band Warsaw Poland Bros at 3:10 p.m. Tickets should be purchased in advance. They are about $32 for ages 13 and up, $21 for ages 5-12, and free for ages 4 and under. Doors open at 1 p.m., and music starts at 2 p.m. Parking is limited, so concertgoers should consider biking or carpooling. The farm is at 3394 Brown Island Rd. S.  The Bike Peddler, a downtown bicycle shop, will be hosting a group ride to the farm. It starts at 12:45 p.m. from their store, 174 Commercial St. N.E. The ride will be about 5 miles long. The first 10 people there for the ride will get a free drink ticket for the festival.  Ironman race *Sunday, July 19: Racers will jump into the Willamette River bright and early this weekend to kick off Oregon’s Ironman 70.3 race. This is the fifth annual Ironman to touch down on Salem’s sidewalks, roads and river. The event first came to the capital city in 2021 and continues to draw thousands each year to compete. It begins in Riverfront Park at 6 a.m. when the first group of racers, clad in wetsuits, dive into the river. That kicks off a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride and, finally, a 13.1 mile run through Minto-Brown Island Park and back to Riverfront. Spectators can watch the run from anywhere along the route. The park is at 200 Water St. N.E. A full map of the course can be found here.  Hoopla  *Tuesday, July 21 – Wednesday, July 22: Hoopla is returning to Salem for another year of basketball by the Capitol. The event runs until Sunday, July 26, but happenings will start earlier on weekday evenings. On Tuesday, there will be Corporate Challenge Tourneys and Build-Your-Own Division Tourneys starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday will see the Men’s 2×2 Invitational Tourney and a Women’s 2×2 Invitational Tourney starting at 5:30 p.m. All games are near the Capitol entrance, 900 Court St. N.E. It is free for spectators. Oregon Supreme Court tours *Tuesday, July 21: The Oregon Judicial Department is hosting free tours of the historic state Supreme Court building every Tuesday in July in honor of America’s 250th birthday. The building at 1163 State Street was completed in 1914. It was designed in the Beaux Arts style by Oregon’s first state architect, William Christmas Knighton. The exterior features striking columns, tall windows and intricate terra cotta ornaments, including a bald eagle from the Great Seal of the United States. People can see the building July 21 and 28 starting at noon.
