San Francisco leaders to vote on homelessness, supportive housing spending plan

San Francisco supervisors are poised to greenlight a plan that would provide a significant boost to homelessness services and supportive housing.
City leaders are betting big on a wide-ranging plan that would cover the city’s response over the next two years.
Typically, if spending does not
exceed $11.9 million, an expenditure does not need to be approved by a vote, but the outlook for the next two years nearly doubles the cap.
The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing is putting a $23.1 million price tag on its investments for 2026-2027 and $23.4 million for the following year.
Expenditures are divided into housing and services and they will allot for additional money from the city’s general fund.
Some of the money may go to the creation of more than 1,200 new supportive housing units.
Supporters say the Housing First program began over 20 years ago and has since placed over 6,400 clients into permanent housing.
