For almost two years, Andy Wohl has served burgers and other pub classics with his food biz, Off the Hook, at Bristol’s South Mountain Tavern. In August, he’ll open a second business a few doors down. Off the Record will occupy the space at 25A Main Street, most recently home to Hermit Thrus h Fiber. There, Wohl will sell vinyl and coffee drinks, using beans from Middlebury’s Little Seed Coffee Roasters. “It’s two of my passions that came together,” said Wohl, 32. “I’ve always enjoyed a slow morning: sunrise, cup of coffee, throwing on a record, just hanging out.” The Bristol resident has worked in kitchens since he was 14, including time on the festival circuit with Burlington’s Ahli Baba’s Kabob Shop and stints at Middlebury’s the Mad Taco and Fire Ice Restaurant. Wohl will continue to run Off the Hook, which serves dinner Wednesday through Friday nights at the popular bar and live music venue. Little Seed owners Maggie and Anthony Gerakos are some of Wohl’s best customers at the tavern, he said, and teaming up with them was an easy decision. “They really care about the community, and they’ve been helping me with everything along the way,” Wohl continued. Off the Record will serve espresso drinks, drip coffee and cold-brew in summer but no food. As a kid in Cranford, N.J., Wohl spent “every single cent” he made on records, he said, starting with $1 Beatles and Talking Heads records he picked up at a carpet store. His new shop’s name is a throwback to one that operated in Cranford in the 1970s and ’80s. While the vinyl selection at Bristol’s Off the Record will reflect Wohl’s eclectic taste in music, he’s also happy to source specific albums for customers. ➆ The post Off the Record Vinyl and Coffee Shop Coming to Bristol appeared first on Seven Days. ...read more read less
