In response to the triple digit temperatures in the forecast this week, the City of Pierre has opened a cooling center at the Griffin Park Storm Shelter. The approximately 2,400-square-foot facility can accommodate up to 400 people and includes restroom facilities. Residents are encouraged to stop i n to cool down, but people using the facility are asked to help keep the space clean by disposing of trash and respecting the building, so it remains available for everyone who needs it. The storm shelter/cooling center is located at 703 S. Washington Avenue, near the tennis courts in Griffin Park. It’s open Monday through Thursday (July 13-16) from 11a.m. to 10p.m. CT, providing a safe, air-conditioned place for anyone needing relief from the heat.
