A man has been charged with attempted murder after officials said he intentionally struck a bicyclist with his vehicle, throwing the rider nearly 100 feet in Abington Township.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, around 8:30 p.m. on July 12, 2026, Abington Township P
olice responded to a report of a crash on the 2800 block of Meyer Avenue in the Glenside section of Abington Township.
When first responders got to the scene, officials said they found 24-year-old Colin Cassidy unconscious and bleeding from his head. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for significant head trauma.
Back at the scene, officials said the striking vehicle, a black Jeep Compass, driven by Phillip Prince, 40, of Glenside, has front-end damage and a cracked windshield.
Following the crash, Montgomery County Detectives and Abington Police began a joint investigation and through multiple videos and witness interviews, officials said the investigation found that the Jeep was following a group of four bicyclists, including Cassidy, eastbound on Meyer Avenue.
Cassidy was riding a BMX-style bicycle and had moved from riding on the roadway to riding on the sidewalk, officials said. Once the Jeep reached the bottom of the hill, the Jeep crossed into the opposing lane of travel onto the sidewalk before striking the rear of the bicycle.
Due to the impact, officials said Cassidy was thrown 90 to 95 feet.
The investigation also found that prior to the crash, officials said Prince had gotten out of his Jeep in the area of Garfield Avenue and Jefferson Street and confronted Cassidy, saying he had stolen the BMX-style bicycle.
Prince was arrested on scene and is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault by vehicle, homicide by vehicle, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to officials.
Officials said Prince is awaiting arraignment, at which time bail and a preliminary hearing date will be set.
