Man killed, 4 injured after mass shooting erupts at Lawncrest party, police say
Jul 13, 2026
A man was killed and four others — including a man, woman and two children — were injured when, police said, a shooting broke out in a large gathering of people at a party in an apartment complex in the Lawncrest section of North Philadelphia overnight.
According to Philadelphia Police Capt.
Louis Higginson, officials learned of the incident after officers stationed along Adams Avenue heard gunfire coming from the Hill Creek Apartment complex, on the 500 block of East Hill Creek Drive.
The responding officers, he said, found two people suffering from gunshot wounds — a teen boy who was shot in the leg and a woman, 18, who has been shot in the shoulder.
Both were taken to a nearby hospital, Higginson said.
Officers responding to this incident also discovered a man who had been shot and, Higginson said, this victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
At the scene, he said, investigators recovered 17 spend shell casings as they investigated this incident.
Then, less than a half-hour later, at about 12:10 a.m., police received a report of two boys — one 16-years-old and the other 17-years-old — who were also injured in this incident but were located in a separate section of the same apartment complex. One had been shot in the leg and the other in the arm, Higginson said.
Both of these victims were also taken to a nearby hospital, he said. As of about 6 a.m., police did not provide the conditions of these victims following their hospitalization.
Higginson said that police believe the shooting erupted during a party or large gathering, but investigators were still working to determine how the incident unfolded.
He said investigators were reviewing surveillance footage to learn more.
Also, the night prior, police said, officers responded to the same apartment complex, at about 2:45 a.m. early Sunday, during an investigation into a stolen vehicle.
At that time, police said, an unidentified individual jumped into a marked Philadelphia police vehicle and vandalized it, while a large crowd gathered in the area.
While officers worked to disperse this crowd, police said, a man — described as having a light complexion and standing about 5-foot, 10-inches tall and wearing a surgical mask — shot a firearm several times before fleeing the scene.
Two vehicle were struck by bullets and, police said, three men — a 23-year-old, a 22-year-old and a 28-year-old — were cited for disorderly conduct.
Asked about the incident the night before, Higginson said investigators did not yet know if these two shootings were connected.
But, an investigation is underway, he said.
