The H-E-B grocery store in far North Fort Worth is closed for repairs after a fire broke out Thursday night, forcing an evacuation.
According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, firefighters were called to the store on Heritage Trace Parkway just after 8 p.m. when contractors working on refrigeran
t lines inside the store reported hearing a loud bang and then seeing a fire break out.
Fire officials said the workers tried to put out the fire with extinguishers, but by the time firefighters arrived, it had spread to the back of the building.
Fort Worth Fire said an aggressive attack by the first firefighters who arrived at the grocery store and the store’s fire suppression system helped get the fire under control in about 15 minutes. The fire damage was confined to the back corner of the building, but smoke filled the 128,000-square-foot store. FWFD said large fans were brought in to help ventilate the building.
