Federal agents and Salem police officers arrested a Salem man this week in an ongoing investigation that has turned up dozens of firearms, illegal drugs and weapons equipment. Evidence seized so far connects Michael J. Brasi, a northeast Salem resident, to a manufacturing operation of both firear ms and drugs. Brasi, 47, was taken into custody Monday, July 6, for a domestic stalking incident, and his arrest prompted searches of several locations, including a storage unit, where a total of 78 firearms have been recovered so far, according to statements by the Salem Police Department. Salem police detectives worked with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to further investigate locations tied to Brasi. They seized weapons and “thousands” of ammunition rounds along with fentanyl, cocaine and psilocybin mushrooms, police said. The large amounts of weapons and drugs were discovered after Brasi was arrested for violating a no-contact order with a woman he’s accused of strangling, Marion County Circuit Court records show. After patrol officers arrested Brasi for domestic violence violations and stalking, they shared information with detectives who then got search warrants for multiple locations linked to Brasi, an initial police statement said. In an initial search Tuesday, Salem detectives recovered 54 firearms, eight silencers and machines used to make untraceable firearms, including 3D printers, drill presses and firearm kits, police said.  The search also recovered 129 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 89 grams of fentanyl, 20 grams of cocaine and 150 vials of anabolic steroids, which are forms of the hormone testosterone often used as medication. During a search connected to Michael J. Brasi, of Salem, detectives and federal agents recovered fentanyl, cocaine, anabolic steroids and psilocybin mushrooms. On Thursday, Salem police detectives searched a Keizer storage unit connected to Brasi, an updated statement Friday said. They found another 24 firearms, three silencers and a pill press used to make drugs, according to the statement. After his arrest Monday, Brasi was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he remains in custody, the jail roster shows. He’s being held on charges of first-degree burglary, stalking and unlawful use of a GPS device, court records show. Firearm and drug charges are expected to be filed against Brasi at a later date. Detectives were assisted in both searches by ATF agents. Contact reporter Madeleine Moore: [email protected]. Make Salem Reporter your trusted source for accurate, independent local news – every day.
