Speed may have played a role in a deadly crash on Interstate 80 in the Fairfield area early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash happened on westbound I-80 near Red Top Road, the CHP said. An approximately 60-year-old Emeryville man behind the wheel of a gray L exus sedan allegedly was speeding when he was involved in a minor crash with a black Lexus sedan, according to the CHP. The impact caused the gray Lexus to hit the center median barrier, overturn and come to rest in the far left lane. The driver of a gray Dodge Durango subsequently crashed into the gray Lexus. The driver of the gray Lexus died at the scene, the CHP said. No other injuries were reported. The CHP said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
