LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — An Indiana State Police Trooper was shot Friday morning near the Michigan City Exit along I-94, according to ISP. In a press conference, ISP said the officer was shot multiple times and is currently in stable condition. The suspect was found dead after a large police search in the area of Westville. Officials say the encounter began as a traffic stop in Berrien County, and resulted in a police chase involving a reportedly stolen vehicle. Berrien County Police told ABC affiliate ABC57, the vehicle was stolen from the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo. Police attempted to pull the suspect over; when they wouldn’t stop, other agencies joined in a chase that traveled across state lines. The shooting happened near the Speedway gas station along I-94. Police say there’s no ongoing threat to the public and more information will be released at a later time. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
