Crime selfie helps police close American Canyon burglary case

A suspect’s selfie allegedly showing him in the act of a crime helped police close a burglary case in the North Bay.
Two Hayward men were arrested this week in connection to over $100,000 in tools, copper wire and vehicles taken in American Canyon, police said.
The American Canyon Police Dep
artment said the burglary was reported Monday at a business in the 1100 block of Green Island Road.
A pair of vehicles linked to the burglary were spotted days later, leading to arrests of the suspects.

Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday stopped one of the suspect vehicles and detained the driver. American Canyon police found evidence to place the driver, 53-year-old Daniel Lemas of Hayward, under arrest on suspicion of burglary. Police said selfie photographs of Lemas committing the crimes were also found during the investigation.
Lemas was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections for several felony crimes connected with the burglary, police said.
On Wednesday, Hayward police stopped a second vehicle of interest from the burglary and detained the driver. American Canyon police responded and arrested 49-year-old Dennis Tylij of Hayward. He was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections for conspiracy to commit a crime, police said, adding the charge is a felony.
Multiple agencies on Wednesday also served a search warrant in the 3200 block of Arden Road in Hayward, where officers recovered some of the items stolen from the business in American Canyon.
