INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana gets one last dry day Wednesday before a stalled cold front triggers storms and heavy rain starting Thursday night.
Wednesday: Quiet Day
High pressure over the region holds steady, bringing mostly sunny skies a
nd highs in the mid-80s. A stray shower might pop up near the Kentucky border, but most of the state stays dry and comfortable.
Thursday: Rain Chances Return
A cold front pushes in from the north. Storms will develop Thursday afternoon and evening, with strong wind gusts and isolated large hail as the primary threats.
As the front stalls Thursday night, heavy rain will become the bigger concern. “Storm training”—where storms repeatedly move over the same area—could dump rainfall exceeding 2 inches per hour, causing flash flooding across city streets and low-lying spots.
Friday Through Sunday: Rain Chances Continue
The front is expected to linger over the Midwest, fueling daily showers and thunderstorms. Central Indiana faces a 60% to 80% chance of 2 to 4 inches of rain by Sunday, with some spots seeing even more due to repeated storms.
Even with heavy cloud cover limiting highs to the low and mid-80s, a muggy atmosphere will stick around with dew points in the 70s.
Early Next Week: Another Heat Dome?
Another large ridge looks to develop next week to our west. There’s still a question as to how far east it will extend, but temperatures do appear to heat up to near 90° at least, and potentially hotter.
