Jul 07, 2026
The Delaware River Port Authority will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ben Franklin Bridge with a daylong public event on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The bridge, which opened in 1926 as the Delaware River Bridge, was the world’s longest suspension bridge at the time. Construction began in 1
922 and took four and a half years to complete.
When the bridge opened, drivers paid an 18-cent toll to cross. As of 2024, the toll for drivers is $6.
The Ben Franklin Bridge has become a notable landmark in the Philadelphia region, appearing in films like “Rocky” and “National Treasure.”
The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. and will run until 2:30 p.m. on the Camden, New Jersey, side of the bridge near the toll plaza.
The event will feature live entertainment, food trucks, family activities and historical exhibits.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to walk on the bridge roadway while it is closed to vehicle traffic.
PATCO will operate an enhanced service with trains every 15 minutes throughout the event. A shuttle service will be available between PATCO’s City Hall Station and the entrance to the event.
The event is free and open to the public, and registration and tickets are not required.
