521 Brightfield Drive, 21093. Hot House: Hidden House, But Close to SO Much! 4 Bedrooms/3 Bathrooms. 1,760 Square Feet. Asking price: $669,000. What: When I was house-hunting about a decade ago, my main wish was to find a house that was hidden away, but close to everything. I discovered i t in the tiny neighborhood of Hoes Heights (stop laughing; there’s actually an interesting story behind the name). So, when I found today’s Hot House, it was the same situation – hidden, but convenient. And since I am never sure of the Lutherville-Timonium boundaries, I am using the ZIP code as the locator! The house began life as a stone cottage, but was added to at some later point. It has just had a complete gut renovation, updating and modernizing everything, including new plumbing, new electric, new HVAC system, new kitchen, new bathrooms, new porch, and new high-end finishes. Because this was most likely a worker’s cottage, there probably were not significant embellishments that were removed in the renovation. You enter the property via a road that also leads to Brightwood Senior Living. From the front of the house, you see the “new” addition, but from the back, you can see how the two houses meld together. The entire house is filled with light, something I am guessing that it was not the case before the renovation. The house is somewhat open-plan, due to the renovation, but some of the original walls between the stone house and the “new” part remain, as do other original features such as the [tiny] closet in the main bedroom. The owner is offering to either add another closet or give the buyer a $2,500 credit to add their own. The property covers about an acre and a small stream from the Jones Falls runs through it. There is also the historic stone foundation of a former small house. There is plenty of space for children to explore and get back to nature like we did when we were kids. Where: This house is just off of Falls Road, along the entrance road to Brightwood Senior Living and just south of the Beltway. The walkability score is low, but within a five minute drive you can get to Greenspring Station and the shops further south on Falls Road. Final Appraisal: If you are looking for serious privacy, but you don’t want a half-hour drive to the grocery store, check out this house. Fully renovated, yet historic, the best of many worlds. The listing for the house is here. All photographs from the listing. ...read more read less
