Jul 06, 2026
San Jose police declared an unlawful assembly in downtown Sunday night in response to a crowd of people engaging in “unruly behavior,” the department said.
Police said just after 10 p.m. roughly 200 to 300 people took over the area of East San Fernando and South Second streets for well over a
n hour, resulting in traffic disruptions. The crowd was setting off fireworks, drinking in the streets and “engaging in other unruly behavior,” police said.
When officers tried to disperse the crowd, several people started to throw bottles and other objects at them, prompting the incident commander to issue an unlawful assembly dispersal order, police said.
The crowd listened to the order and cleared the area, police said.
It was not immediately known if any arrests were made.
