More than 200 residents of Echelon Care and Rehabilitation Facility in Voorhees Township, Camden County, were evacuated on Saturday after their building’s air conditioning stopped working, police told NBC10. The AC issue began at around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July, due to a water main break tha t flooded the facility’s HVAC system, police said. At around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, facility staff decided to move the residents to Eastern High School, which is across the street from the facility, police said. EMS assited in moving residents to the temporary residence, police said. Léelo en español aquí “The relocation was completed safely, and there were no medical emergencies or injuries reported during the process,” police said. “Family members have been contacted by facility staff, advised of the situation, and provided the opportunity to pick up their loved ones if they chose to do so.” According to police, they are working to place the residents in other nursing homes or care facilities in New Jersey until the AC is fixed. Around 100 residents still do not know where they will sleep on Saturday night, according to police. “A Unified Command has been established consisting of the Voorhees Township Office of Emergency Management, Camden County Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey State Police Office Emergency Management, and other responding agencies,” police said. “The facility continues to provide all medical care, medications, meals, and other essential services to the patients while they remain at the temporary shelter.” ...read more read less
