Road Work sign in downtown Lincoln. (Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR July 4)-Weather permitting, highway construction work is scheduled to begin the week of July 13 at the Interstate 180 (I-180) and Interstate 80 (I-80) interchange (401), according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Work on the project will include substructure modification and superstructure replacement on the northbound and southbound I-180 bridges over I-80 along with the installation of new lighting, guardrail, overhead signs and cameras. Traffic will be maintained on I-180 and I-80 for the majority of the work with lane closures and head-to-head configurations. Traffic will be reduced down to one lane in each direction on I-180 and two lanes in each direction on I-80 within the project limits. Temporary overnight directional closures will occur on I-180 and I-80 throughout construction. Long term closures of the interchange loops will occur during construction to support phased construction efforts. Additional information will be provided prior to interchange loop closures. Speeds will be reduced through the work zones and drivers may experience delays. A 12-foot width restriction will be in effect on I-180 and I-80 within the project limits for the duration of the project. Anticipated project completion is Dec. 2027. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, put phones down. ...read more read less
