It may not be New Year’s Eve, but that isn’t stopping a ball from dropping in Times Square on Friday. And then again multiple times Saturday morning.
For the first time in its 120-year history, the Times Square ball drop will be taking place not to ring in a new year, but for a different cele
bration: America’s 250th anniversary.
The ball drop in the Crossroads of the World to mark the start of the Fourth of July across the multiple time zones for U.S. states and territories, starting with Guam at 10 a.m. EST — because that marks midnight on July 4 in the island territory.
The ball will drop at midnight for each time zone, so it will next go down at midnight EST, then again every hour from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., as well as at 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., to mark the respective Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaskan, Hawaiian and Samoan time zones.
