Wawa Welcome America Day 15: Philly's Salute to Independence Parade canceled

Friday, July 3, marks Day 15 of the Wawa Welcome America festivities.
Friday’s events include free admission to multiple Philly-area museums, and free movie screenings at the Philadelphia Film Society Center, and the Pops On Independence concert.
But, due to extreme heat, the 28th Annual L
iberty Medal ceremony, the Salute to Independence Semiquincentennial Parade planned to be held in Center City Philadelphia on Friday has been canceled.

Free Museum Days: Historic St. George’s Museum and Archives
When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Historic St. George’s Museum and Archives, 235 N. 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
About: Reopening this summer just in time for the 250th celebrations, including all new interactive exhibits. Activities will be available for visitors of all ages, including crafts like water marbling doll-making, and wax seals.
Free Museum Days: Science History Institute
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Science History Institute, 315 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19106
About: Founded in 1982, the Institute is dedicated to illuminating significant scientific achievements and the complex circumstances behind them A new exhibition, “Flash! Bang! Boom! A History of Fireworks” opens at the institute, teaching visitors about the science and craft behind creating and releasing fireworks.
Free Museum Days: Fireman’s Hall Museum
When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Fireman’s Hall Museum, 147 N 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19106
About: Housed in a renovated 1898 firehouse, the Museum is one of the nation’s premier fire museums, focusing on preserving Philly fire history and promoting fire safety.
38th Annual Liberty Medal Ceremony
When: 10:40 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Inside the National Constitution Center, 525 Arch St, Philadelphia, PA 19106
About: The National Constitution Center will award His Holiness Pope Leo XIV the 38th annual Liberty Medal at a public ceremony. The award recognizes The Holy Father’s commitment to promoting religious liberty and freedom of conscience and expression around the world. Past recipients include Hamilton and Ron Chernow, as well as Ken Burns.
The ceremony will be live streamed on the National Constitution Center’s YouTube channel.
Free Museum Days: Historic Waynesborough
When: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Historic Waynesborough, 2049 Waynesborough, Road Paoli, PA 19301
About: See the house museum of Major General Anthony Wayne, an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolution and a Founding Father.
Tours start every 45 minutes starting at 12 p.m., with the final tour beginning at 3 p.m.
Free Movie Days
When: Independence Day (1996) (in 4K) at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Where: Philadelphia Film Center, 1412 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19102
About: The Philadelphia Film Society is offering two-weeks of free movie screenings by and about Philadelphia. All films will be showing at the Main Screen at the Center.
Pops on Independence
When: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Independence National Historical Park, 599 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
About: Come celebrate the 250th anniversary of America with the Philly Pops, featuring a headlining performance by multi-platinum-selling singer/songwriter and Tony Award-wining performer Idina Menzel.
