Riders trying to get around by using SEPTA are being faced with delays and cancelations because of this extreme heat on Thursday. A spokesperson for SEPTA explained that they are dealing with switch issues near 30th Street Station on July 2 which is causing 30 minute delays. Also, Regional R ail trains are being forced to run at slower speeds out of an abundance of caution because of the hot temperatures, SEPTA said. NJ Transit is also reporting a 60 minute delay for their train services. Why are Regional Rail trains moving slower on Thursday? SEPTA said that the Region Rail line trains are moving more slowly on July 2 because of the extreme heat. This is because extreme heat can cause overhead wires to sag, officials said. SEPTA reduces train speeds down about five to 10 miles per hour to lower the stress on the system. These heat rules reportedly get triggered whenever temperatures reach 88 degrees and are forecasted to top 90 degrees.
