Fourth of July home on Southeast side of Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman on the southeast side of Indianapolis is getting her home ready for the Fourth of July in the form of an American flag. She says it’s an act of love that celebrates family as well as her country.
Drive dow
n East Tabor Street, and you could miss it.
“I sure love that it’s decorated for the American flag, and I have a great sense of pride for our veterans and my parents, who were the two hardest working people I knew,” said Lisa Corsaro Straw.
If you stop to talk to Corsaro Straw, you quickly see it’s a labor of love for her late husband, a veteran, and her late parents.
“I asked them for the shade of blue of the American flag when I picked it out at Lowe’s,” she said. “My parents actually got married on the Fourth of July!”
Each item reminds her of them.
“She’s got the purse here that’s the bicentennial, her doll, you name it, her lights, my mother loved the flags as much as I do,” she said. “If we celebrate them and the things they do, they’re still with us, and we’re celebrating them every day, and we think about them in the way we knew them and loved them.”
Just like her mother, she loves the Fourth of July.
“It’s a day that everybody remembers the fourth of July, and everyone remembers celebrating,” she said. “Barbecues, family, family cooking, and of course the fireworks.”
And a home-renovation project.
A cancer survivor, Corsaro Straw is also adopting her block to beautify it, even on the hottest days of the year so far.
“I did this in a couple of hours, the front porch, but I’ve got the sides to do. So, I paint it all by hand. So, it’s going to take a little longer,” she said.
It’s pride and respect for her family, her 117-year-old home, and her country.
“The veterans who gave their lives for what we have today, our freedom,” she said.
This is the second time she’s painted her home for the holiday. Corsaro Straw says her home will stay a year-round tribute.
