A nonprofit organization has paid off the mortgage for the family of fallen Philadelphia Police Sgt. Jaime Roman.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced the mortgage payoff on Thursday, saying it wanted to honor Roman’s sacrifice.
Roman was shot during a traffic stop on June 22, 2024. Aft
er fighting for his life for months, he died from his injuries on Sept. 10, 2024. He was 31.
A seven-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, Roman had dedicated his career to protecting the city’s neighborhoods and residents, a job his family said had always been his dream.
Capt. Steven Bennis of the Philadelphia Police Department’s 25th District said Roman made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Roman was awarded the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor in recognition of his service.
Roman and his wife, Jazmin Hernandez, purchased their family’s forever home just nine months before he was killed.
Through its Fallen First Responder Home Program, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has now ensured the family can remain in the home permanently.
Hernandez said the gift means one less financial burden as she continues to raise their son and pursue a nursing degree.
“More than anything, it means that the home Jaime and I worked so hard to provide for our family will always be ours,” Hernandez said.

The Tunnel to Towers Fall First Responder Home Program pays off the mortgages of first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty, due to 9/11, or from occupational illnesses, leaving behind young children.
“As we celebrate our nation’s freedom this Independence Day, we pause to remember the men and women who have given up their lives to protect our freedoms here at home,” said Tunnel to Towers Chairman and CEO Frank Siller. “Sergeant Jaime Roman embodied that spirit of service and sacrifice. It is our privilege to ensure his family can remain in the home they picked out together, without any financial burden.”
