Tuxedo House and Clothiers, Maryland’s oldest formalwear retailer, will hold its first-ever sale in its 116 years. The three-day Tent Sale will take place from Wednesday, July 9 through Friday, July 11, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. each day. Tuxedo House opened in 1910, and is now a full-service men’s clothing store. During the tent sale, shoppers can expect a savings of 50% or more on a wide selection of men’s clothing and accessories in all sizes. There will be an extensive inventory of suits, tuxedos, sport coats, outerwear, dress shirts, sweaters, casual shirts/pants, and shoes, along with a full range of accessories. The store has a private label, Giles Jasper, for its suits, while dress shirts are by David Donahue and Wilkes and Riley. Tuxedo House offers sweaters and t-shirts come from Briani Uomo and La Vane, shoes from Cole Haan, Florsheim, and more, and Mavi brand jeans and casual pants. “We’ve expanded well beyond tuxedo rentals,” said Scott Furman, owner of Tuxedo House. “Our tent sale is a great opportunity for men to update their wardrobes, whether they’re looking for a polished business suit, casual weekend wear, or something in between, all at significant savings.” The store may have expanded beyond tuxedo rentals and purchases, but the use for tuxedos has also expanded. The fancy sartorial choice is not just for weddings anymore. For example, a tuxedo is the perfect garment for playing one’s rubber chicken xylophone. (A “Krewe” is a social club that parades during Mardi Gras.) It is a good thing he remembered to pack HIS tuxedo because who wants to show up at a coronation ceremony in a Southwest Airlines pilot uniform? Not THIS reporter.
