People watch the fireworks show down at the waterfront during the Louisville Waterfront Fourth of July event.(Michelle Hanks / LPM )There will be Fourth of July celebrations across Southern Indiana to commemorate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.Jeffersonville will host its annual parade Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m. on Spring Street, culminating in a celebration at Warder Park that will include face-painting, balloons, hot dogs and the national anthem.Leaders at the Clark County Museum plan to have 76 community members read the Declaration of Independence at the event.Jeanne Burke, the museum’s director and Clark County historian, said it’s great to be able to celebrate this important milestone.“I guess we’re fairly young compared to the rest of the world. But we’re still here,” she said.She also noted Clark County’s role in the Northwest Territory, with Clarksville considered its first town.The museum, which is in Jeffersonville’s NoCo Arts and Cultural District, has a display this summer that includes an exhibit about the Northwest Territory in maps, as well as artifacts from that time period. Visitors can also learn about the connections some founding fathers had to Clark County.Jeffersonville’s Jammin in Jeff event on July 4 will include a night market pop-up museum from 4 to 7 p.m.Floyd County Parks and Recreation is hosting its free, annual Salute to Freedom concert Thursday, July 2 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. River Cities Concert Band will play at the KFC Amphitheater at Kevin Hammersmith Memorial Park in New Albany.The City of New Albany’s Shoreline Independence Day Celebration is Friday, July 3, at the riverfront. The fun includes games and inflatables, local food and drink vendors, live music and fireworks.The River City Yacht Club Band and The Crashers will perform, and there will be special appearances by the local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution."As we are celebrating America 250, we invite residents and visitors alike to come together on our beautiful shoreline to honor our nation's history, celebrate our city, and enjoy an evening of family fun,” New Albany mayor Jeff Gahan said, according to the city’s Facebook page.Sellersburg will host its annual July 4 celebration at the American Legion. Doors open at 11 a.m. with food and raffles. Band Two Tun Anchor will start at 6 p.m., with the fireworks starting around 8:30 p.m.Coverage of Southern Indiana is funded, in part, by Samtec Inc., the Hazel Walter T.
