Park City X Games champions react to town’s new team
Jun 30, 2026
The new X Games League announced the creation and sale of XC Park City Winter Club, one of four teams in its winter league, on June 11.
XC Park City Winter Club will compete in three stops in the league’s upcoming inaugural winter season.
The club was sold to private equity investor All
en Thorpe, who has a home in town. A sports investor beforehand, Thorpe said it was a no-brainer to bring the team to Park City because of its rich winter sports history and culture. He will look to draft as many Park City athletes as possible onto his team of five men and five women during the inaugural winter league draft on Sept. 16 in Los Angeles.
XC Park City Winter Club is furthering interest in the X Games among the town’s freeskiers, who would love to be a part of the team if the draft shakes out in their favor.
“Park City has a huge culture in winter sports,” said freeskier Alex Hall. “So I think having a winter X Games team that’s in and represented by Park City is the perfect match.”
Hall has competed in the Aspen X Games and World Cups in past seasons. He said he’d relish the opportunity to compete in more than one X Games event per season. At 27 years old, he is tied with Swede Henrik Harlaut, 34, for most X Games medals by a skier.
“The league seems super sweet,” Hall said. “Being part of the Park City team would be perfect.”
Hall is hoping for the three stops to not overlap with any World Cups, but said he’d prioritize the X Games events if they did.
Park City freeskier Marin Hamill is as excited as Hall for XC Park City Winter Club’s first season. She believes the team could continue to cement Park City as a mainstay in the freeski and snowboard world. Hamill won the knuckle huck gold medal in her second Aspen X Games this winter.
“I think it’s amazing that Park City will have a team,” Hamill said. “I think with Park City having an X Games team, it will continue to have a huge impact on the sport. Park City has always been an iconic destination for freeski and snowboarding, but I think X Games League is the future of the sport and it’s exciting Park City is involved in it from the beginning.”
Also like Hall, Hamill hopes to be drafted by XC Park City Winter Club. She hasn’t met Thorpe or any of the team yet, but would love to.
“It feels really cool that I grew up in Park City and have a chance to get drafted onto the Park City X Games team,” Hamill said. “It would be a dream to be a part of the Park City team, and I know I would represent Park City well.”
