A man whose car was struck by a firework shot and critically injured three people in Philadelphia’s Brewerytown section overnight, police say.
According to police, the incident happened at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of North Newkirk and West Oxford streets, shortly after a man
was involved in an argument with a group of people who were outside drinking and setting off fireworks, after a firework struck the man’s car.
Following the argument, officials believe, the man left the scene and returned with a firearm.
This individual, who is still at large, then fired, at least, 14 shots at the group, critically injuring two women and man.
Police said a 53-year-old man was struck in the chest, while gunfire hit a 23-year-old woman in the back and a 21-year-old woman was shot in her right leg.
The victims were taken to nearby hospitals where, police said, all three were listed in critical condition.
At the scene on Tuesday morning, evidence markers were spotted strewn throughout the area at the intersection as investigators worked to learn more.
As of about 7 a.m., police had not announced any arrests in this incident — nor have they shared any additional details on the suspected gunman — and had not recovered the weapon involved in this incident.
But, officials said, an investigation was ongoing.
This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
