TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – A South Carolina community is honoring a lesser known Revolutionary War heroine. A statue of Dicey Langston was dedicated in Travelers Rest on Friday. Langston was just 16-years-old when she learned of British plans to attack her brother’s regiment. Historians say her w arning saved them from almost certain death. The statue was created by local artist Nick Ring. He says, “I like how it’s a force of nature. And that was the initial intention, that Dicey would be a force of nature, and on the move, and like the wind.” Historians say Dicey took a 20-mile trek by foot, horse, and water to warn her brother’s regiment of the attack plans. ...read more read less
