YNHH CEO Steps Down
Jun 29, 2026
Yale New Haven Health announced on Monday that Christopher O’Connor is no longer the regional hospital system’s CEO.
The organization’s current president, Pamela Sutton-Wallace, will serve as acting CEO “effective immediately” while Yale New Haven Health conducts a national search for
O’Connor’s successor.
“Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) announced today that Chief Executive Officer Christopher O’Connor will be leaving the Health System following a 14-year tenure,” reads a press release sent out by email and published on the hospital’s website on Monday.
O’Connor, who previously led the Hospital of St. Raphael before it merged with YNHH in 2012, took on the role of YNHH president in 2020 and CEO in 2022 following Marna Borgstrom’s retirement.
Monday’s press release states that, during his tenure as CEO, O’Connor oversaw “the integrations of Westerly Hospital, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, and Milford Hospital into YNHHS. He also spearheaded greater alignment and strategic collaboration with the System’s academic partner, Yale School of Medicine. O’Connor has positioned YNHHS to open the Adams Neurosciences Center in 2027, which will be the largest strategic project in the history of the academic health system, bringing together advanced science and compassionate care for patients and families facing complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions.”
The press release does not state why O’Connor has left the organization, nor does it include a quote from O’Connor himself. Yale New Haven Health includes five hospitals — Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence Memorial, Westerly, and Yale New Haven.
“We are extremely grateful to Chris for his commitment to the System and many years of service,” YNHHS Board of Trustees Chair Mary Farrell is quoted as saying in the press release. “He has worked tirelessly to serve our patients and communities during the pandemic with exemplary care and results, and leaves YNHHS in a strong and successful position as we continue to offer the very best care to every one of our patients.”
Yale New Haven Health now plans to conduct a national search “over the next several months” to find a new CEO. O’Connor will serve as a special advisor to the chair of the board of trustees during the transition.
