A 78-year-old man riding a bike was struck and killed on Friday afternoon in Spring Township, Berks County, the county coroner’s office announced on Saturday. The crash happened at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 26, as the bicyclist rode eastbound on Revere Boulevard (Route 724) near Cloiste r Court, officials said. The man was struck by a car going westbound that attempted to make a left turn onto Cloister Court, officials said. The man, identified as John Barton Renninger, of Mohnton Borough, was pronounced dead at around 3:06 p.m., officials said. According to the county coroner, Renninger’s death will be certified as accidental. Renninger was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the coroner added.
