Firefighters battled a large blaze at a refinery Thursday afternoon in Delaware County. The fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. at Monroe Energy, a refinery located on Post Road in Trainer, Pennsylvania. At 2:30 p.m., officials with Monroe Energy said that crews were able to extinguish the fi re and issued an “under control” declaration. Officials confirmed with NBC10 that four Monroe Energy employees suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One of the four employees injured has already returned home, according to the refinery. In a statement, Monroe Energy said the fire began in a process unit pump room at the refinery. “When the fire began, Monroe immediately deployed air monitoring in the surrounding community in coordination with the Delaware County Local Emergency Planning Committee. While smoke was visible, air monitoring results showed that there were no risks to human health,” the statement says.
