COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Just two weeks ago, Attorney General Alan Wilson finished second in the GOP gubernatorial primary, and on Tuesday night, his campaign calling it a landslide win. According to the SC Election Commission, Wilson received about 68%, or about 218,000 votes, while Lt. Gov. Pame la Evette received about 31% or about 100,000 votes. The Attorney General thanked several of his opponents, who went on to endorse him before the runoff, including Congresswoman Nancy Mace, Congressman Ralph Norman, and Senator Josh Kimbrell. He also thanked businessman Rom Reddy, who chose not to make an endorsement. In his speech to a crowd of supporters, family, and friends, Wilson says he aspires to not just be a transitional governor, but a transformational one. He says he hopes to make government more accountable through a Families First initiative, fix roads and bridges by prioritizing infrastructure, and make living more affordable and businesses more profitable for South Carolina families. Wilson also thanked Evette and addressed her supporters, saying, “You fought hard for her and you’re to be commended. I would ask that you give me the opportunity to fight for you as we go into the General Election. I will fight as hard for you as you fought for her.” He went on to say, “Folks, together, we need to unify — we can’t focus on what divides us — we have to focus on what unites us.” He also addressed President Trump’s late (and double endorsement, endorsing Evette first) saying, “I also want to give a shoutout to President Trump. I think he saw the fight and energy in our campaign and I think he likes a fighter and I think that’s what won him over.” Wilson finished his speech by asking folks to join his movement, saying he believes it will change South Carolina forever. He will face Democratic nominee, Representative Jermaine Johnson, in the General Election this November. The majority of his speech can be seen here.
