More than 3 million Texas hunting and fishing license holders may have had personal information exposed in a cybersecurity incident involving a vendor that manages license sales for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, an investigation found that an unau thorized actor may have obtained customer information, including driver’s license numbers, passport numbers (if provided), email addresses, phone numbers, and residential addresses. The agency said Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and financial information, including credit card details, were not accessed during the incident. Texas Cyber Command is investigating the breach. “We recognize the seriousness of this issue and have identified and implemented additional security options to better protect customer information,” Texas Parks and Wildlife officials said in a statement. “Many of our staff are hunters and anglers and were affected by this incident. We are committed to continuing to work with the license system vendor to implement increased safeguards to prevent future incidents.” Affected customers are eligible to receive one year of free credit monitoring through Kroll. Customers can confirm their eligibility by calling (844) 959-7123. The enrollment deadline is Sept. 14, 2026. Texas Parks and Wildlife said it is working with the vendor to implement additional safeguards, enhanced monitoring services and stronger access controls for customer data. The agency said hunting and fishing license sales will continue as scheduled in August for the next license year.
