One man was killed and six other people were hurt after a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway on Saturday night, police said on Sunday. The two-car crash occurred at around 10:16 p.m. at the west side of the roadway at milepost 11.3 in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County, police said. There, 34- year-old Joseph J. Pagano, Jr., of Manahawkin, New Jersey, tried crossed the westbound lanes as a pedestrian and was struck by a Nissan SUV in the left lane. After the Nissan struck Pagano, a Kia struck the Nissan, police said. Pagano died as a result of his injuries, and three people in the Nissan and three people in the Kia were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Before the fatal crash, Pagano, who had been driving a Dodge pick-up truck, was involved in another three-car crash in the same area, police said. After the initial collision, Pagano pulled his truck over to the right shoulder and became a pedestrian, police said. At some point, Pagano decided to cross through the westbound lanes, causing the second, deadly crash. No injuries were reported from the initial crash involving Pagano’s Dodge.
