A man accused of shooting two men at Wilmington Hospital in Delaware, killing one victim and injuring the other earlier this week, was an active employee at the time of the incident, according to Incoming ChristianaCare President and CEO Jenn Schwartz. In a video posted to ChristianaCare’s Fac ebook page on Friday, June 20, Schwartz addressed three questions that she said “have risen to the top” surrounding the deadly shooting that happened on Tuesday, June 16. First, the CEO clarified the employment status of the suspected shooter, identified as 23-year-old John Wallace-Bey of New Castle, Delaware, at the time of the incident. “On the day of the incident he was an active employee with valid employee badge access to Wilmington Hospital,” Schwartz said. Schwartz said Wallace-Bey started working at ChristianaCare as a non-clinical IT employee in February 2026. A source told NBC10 that Wallace-Bey had been fired from the hospital on the day of the shooting. In her video, however, Schwartz did not address that specific claim. Wallace-Bey is accused of shooting two 19-year-old men, also employees, inside the hospital. Workers told NBC10 the shooting occurred near the hospital’s cafeteria. One of the victims died from his injuries while another was placed in critical but stable condition. Officials have not yet released the name of the man who died. They also described the incident as an isolated and targeted shooting. In the video, Schwartz also addressed the “adequacy of notice” to the hospital’s caregivers amid rising concerns from some employees who said that emergency alerts were delayed during the incident. “I want you to know that we continue to review those notifications and our processes and we will have more information in the coming days,” Schwartz said. Finally, Schwartz talked about the future of security at the hospital. In response to the shooting, the CEO said they have expanded weapon screening to include employee entrances at Wilmington Hospital. Schwartz said they expect to release more details in the coming days. “We are committed to sharing confirmed information as appropriate while balancing transparency, the needs of the investigation and the privacy of those involved,” she said. He will be extradited to Delaware where he will be charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. ...read more read less
