The right experience
Jun 20, 2026
Future land development presents an existential threat to the open space character we cherish in Summit County. The threat is real. Many people in this county may not realize the extent of vested development rights that already exists on wide swaths of what currently looks like open space.
A la
rge amount of development is legally inevitable in Summit County because of these vested rights. Finding a way to preserve the open spaces that are most critical to our community amid these development entitlements will require special land use planning skills and experiences in our County Council members.
Our neighbor and friend John Kucera, who is running for the Summit County District 4 seat, has exactly the experience and skills we need to deal with these difficult development issues. John has earned his stripes serving two terms on the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission. He already has hands-on experience addressing the land development and other issues that face the County Council.
To his credit, John took the opportunity during his term on the Planning Commission to vote against Dakota Pacific. He will use this experience to mitigate as much as possible the impact that development will have on District 4 and the rest of the county.
John is also the strongest candidate because he has both academic and real life work experience in finance. He is prepared to undertake the budgeting and monetary issues that consume so much of the council’s time.
John and his wife are longtime residents of District 4, and his kids are in school here. He and his family are firmly rooted in this community and he has already proven his commitment to public service on behalf of our residents. We urge all our neighbors in District 4 to vote for John in the June 23 Democratic Primary.
