Indiana GOP Convention Begins Today in Fort Wayne
Jun 19, 2026
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Republicans from across Indiana are gathering in Fort Wayne for the Indiana Republican Party State Convention, a two-day event that will culminate with delegates selecting the party’s nominees for several statewide offices.
The convention begins today at the Grand Wayne Ce
nter and will bring approximately 1,800 delegates from all 92 counties to downtown Fort Wayne.
One of the most closely watched contests will be the race for the Republican nomination for Secretary of State. Incumbent Secretary of State Diego Morales is seeking the nomination against Knox County Clerk David Shelton, conservative activist Jamie Reitenour, and Max Engling, a senior adviser and regional director for U.S. Sen. Jim Banks.
Delegates will also consider party business, hear from elected officials and candidates, and participate in caucuses and meetings throughout the weekend before voting takes place.
Friday night’s activities will feature a keynote address from U.S. Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana, known nationally for his appearances on cable news and his often colorful commentary on national political issues.
The Secretary of State race has drawn particular attention following Engling’s late entry into the contest and endorsement from Banks. Candidates have spent recent weeks traveling the state and making direct appeals to delegates ahead of the convention vote.
The convention comes just weeks after Indiana’s primary election and is expected to help shape the Republican Party’s statewide ticket heading into the November general election.
WOWO will have extensive coverage from the Grand Wayne Center throughout the convention. The Burning Truth with Casey Hendrickson will broadcast live on location Friday afternoon, featuring interviews with candidates, delegates, and party leaders.
On Saturday, Fort Wayne’s Morning News host Kayla Blakeslee will lead convention attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance as delegates prepare for the day’s proceedings.
WOWO News will provide updates throughout the convention weekend online, on-air, and across social media.
