Top Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Viktoriia Riaboshapka Reveals the Principles Behind Successful Work with Celebrities
Jun 18, 2026
Today, a public figure’s appearance is part of their personal brand – a communication tool for connecting with audiences and a critical element of professional success. That’s why the specialists responsible for a celebrity’s image have evolved into strategic partners who help their clients
look compelling, confident, and authentic in any situation.
Viktoriia Riaboshapka is a sought-after top makeup artist and hair stylist whose expertise is trusted by celebrities, business leaders, media personalities, and participants in major international events. Over the course of her career, she has prepared clients for Grammy Week events, international beauty pageants, television productions, book cover shoots, editorial sessions, and high-profile business engagements.
Viktoriia Riaboshapka outlines the core principles that allow her to build lasting client relationships and maintain an exceptional level of trust in an industry where reputation is everything.
Working with Musicians and Performers: Balancing Image with Functionality
Key principles:
Create a look that reads just as powerfully for the audience in the room as it does on camera in close-up.
Account for the demands of the stage – makeup and hair must hold up through hours of performance, shifting lights, and constant movement.
Consider the emotional arc of the performance – the look should support the artist’s energy and amplify their stage presence.
Anticipate unexpected challenges: heat, humidity, quick costume changes, and extended rehearsals.
Coordinate with the broader creative team – stylists, choreographers, and producers – so the look functions within the unified vision of the show.
“When I was preparing artist Corvaa for Grammy Week 2026 in Los Angeles, my goal went far beyond creating a beautiful look. Grammy Week is one of the most significant events in the music industry, bringing together artists, producers, label executives, media, and industry leaders from around the world. For many musicians, it’s a pivotal opportunity to make an impression, hold important meetings, and step into the center of professional attention.
At events like this, you are under the constant lens of high-resolution cameras, photographers, and video crews. The look needs to remain flawless for hours on end, perform equally well under different lighting conditions, and maintain its integrity from the first moment you walk in to the very last frame.
When working with artists, I always think not only about aesthetics but about the functionality of the look. Makeup and hair should help the artist feel confident, comfortable, and focused – so that all of their energy can go toward the connections and opportunities that events of this scale make possible.”
Working with an Author on a Book Cover: Highlighting Personality Over Trends
Key principles:
Study the genre and message of the book – the visual on the cover should resonate with the content.
Consider the book’s target audience and the author’s positioning.
Create a timeless look: book covers live for years, and overly trendy choices will date quickly.
Enhance natural features – readers should see both a credible expert and a real human being.
“When I worked with Carolyn Aronson on the cover of her book Lift, Hold, Shine: How I Built a Billion-Dollar Beauty Empire One Strand at a Time, I understood that this was far more than a photo shoot. Carolyn Aronson is a legend in the beauty industry – the founder of the styling brand It’s a 10 Haircare. Her book tells the story of an entrepreneurial journey built on perseverance, resilience, and the creation of a global brand. In projects like this, the cover becomes part of the author’s personal legacy, one that will remain in the public eye for many years to come.

The unique challenge of working with leaders in the beauty industry is that they are deeply knowledgeable about cosmetics and visual aesthetics. That makes professional dialogue especially important. The goal isn’t to showcase your own technique – it’s to co-create a look that reflects the person’s journey, experience, and values.
My primary objective was not to present the founder of a brand, but to reveal the woman who built a billion-dollar business while staying true to herself.”
Working with Actresses on a Series: Dramatic Continuity and Technical Precision
Key principles:
Follow the script: makeup and hair are part of the character – they evolve as the story does.
Ensure continuity: scenes can be filmed weeks apart, and the look must match frame by frame.
Use long-lasting yet gentle formulations – an actress may be in makeup for 12 or more hours.
Account for on-set lighting, camera optics, and color grading.
Be ready for rapid touch-ups between takes, especially in scenes involving tears, rain, or physical action.
“On the series Best Drama Production, I served as the lead makeup artist, and one of the key actresses was Ana Christian, who played a complex, multi-layered role. In film and television, scenes are almost never shot in chronological order. A scene from the season finale may be filmed before a scene from the very first episode, and the crew may return to the same shot weeks later.
That’s why one of the most critical responsibilities of a makeup artist is ensuring absolute visual continuity. I always maintain detailed face charts, document makeup schematics, on-set lighting conditions, product shades, and even the placement of individual hair strands in reference photos. Sometimes a slight difference in blush intensity or the position of a curl can disrupt an entire scene during editing.
Another essential element is working with a character’s emotional state. On-screen makeup must serve the dramatic truth of the story. If a character has been through a sleepless night, intense stress, or an emotional breakdown, the audience needs to feel that visually – while never noticing the makeup artist’s hand at all. It’s precisely this balance between artistic intention and technical precision that makes on-set work so compelling.”
Working with a Business Leader Day-to-Day and at Events: Speed, Versatility, and Presence
Key principles:
Develop a personal visual code – a signature look that reflects the client’s character, status, and values.
Establish a “base protocol” – a polished daily look that can be achieved in 20 to 30 minutes without sacrificing quality, even within a demanding schedule.
Transition seamlessly from daytime settings (business meetings, negotiations) to evening engagements (gala events, awards) without a full makeup or hair overhaul.
Account for the client’s high-intensity lifestyle – the look must stay fresh through flights, location changes, and multi-hour events.
“Loren Ridinger is the embodiment of a modern global leader. She is the CEO of Market America Worldwide and SHOP.COM, a bestselling author of Scrambled or Sunny-Side Up?, and a public figure whose day can encompass business meetings, media interviews, keynote appearances, photo shoots, television segments, and evening events.
When working with clients like this on an ongoing basis, it’s essential to understand that the look must be not only beautiful but highly adaptable.
That’s why I work with what I call the ‘architecture of appearance.’ We build a strong foundation – a makeup base designed to carry through the entire day. From there, the look can be quickly adjusted for whatever the moment requires: sharpened for an evening event, elevated for a shoot, or dialed back for a focused business meeting.
There’s also the constant reality of international travel, shifting climates, different locations, different lighting. In that environment, a specialist doesn’t just do the work – they anticipate the challenges before they arrive. I always come prepared with a well-considered toolkit of solutions for any scenario.

Working with high-profile female leaders has taught me that appearance is more than aesthetics – it is a strategic component of professional communication. A thoughtfully curated image can enhance confidence, project authority, and help clients feel at ease, enabling them to stay fully focused on their objectives and leadership responsibilities.”
Working with a Beauty Pageant Contestant: Flawless Under the Microscope
Key principles:
Attend to every detail, from the tips of the hair to the lash line – cameras shoot in 4K.
Ensure exceptional staying power: contestants spend hours on stage under intense stage lighting, and everything must remain impeccable.
Strike the right balance between pageant standards and the contestant’s individual identity.
“When I worked with Maddison Olivera, the representative of the Dominican Republic, at Miss Teen Universe 2025, my primary challenge was accounting for multiple layers of perception simultaneously. The judges see the contestant from several feet away, the live audience sees her on stage, and the television audience examines every detail in close-up.
Many people assume that pageant makeup should be as bold as possible. In reality, its primary purpose is to preserve facial harmony under any lighting condition and from any angle. Makeup that’s too light can literally disappear under powerful stage lights, while heavy contouring or overly dense textures will appear harsh up close and in high-resolution photography and video. The job of a professional is to find the perfect balance between expressiveness and naturalness.
I always say that the best pageant look is one that enhances a woman’s natural beauty and helps her feel confident – not one that turns her into someone else.”
As Viktoriia Riaboshapka emphasizes, working with celebrities has long transcended the boundaries of the beauty industry. It is work that touches on reputation, personal brand, public perception, and a person’s emotional state during the most defining moments of their career. While musicians, actresses, entrepreneurs, authors, and pageant contestants operate in entirely different worlds, one fundamental principle unites the approach to creating their image: appearance should help a person achieve their goals – not distract from their personality, their accomplishments, or their professional message.
