A mother and her child was taken to a hospital in critical condition Thursday afternoon after they were hit by a sneaker wave and pulled out into the surf at San Francisco’s Baker Beach, officials said. The San Francisco Fire Department said bystanders pulled the mother and child out of the wat er before emergency crews arrived. SFFD released the following statement: “This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers of sneaker waves along San Francisco’s coastline and throughout California. Sneaker waves can surge much farther up the beach than expected, without warning. Never turn your back to the ocean. Stay alert, keep children and pets close, and avoid wet sand and driftwood near the waterline. If you see someone in trouble, call 911 immediately and do not enter the water yourself.” ...read more read less
